Haiku #3

The lone blade of grass,
Tallest amongst all its peers,
At least till next cut.

Haiku Blitz-Year 1 (#2)

The poet inside,
Imprisoned within my mind,
Now write, and be free!

Haiku Blitz-Year 1 (#1)

In an effort to work on my writing skills I need to practice writing every day.  At a minimum I plan to write at lease one haiku a day.

A Haiku a day,
My year round writing project,
To cure writer’s block.

And so my little adventure in writing begins.

Rough Poetry

Some of the poetry I write is going to be a little rough.  I know it could use some editing, but for my sake in order to keep writing, and stay consistent on my blog, I'm trying to put up poems or stories shortly after writing them.  The following short poem is one I wrote while sitting at a coffee shop yesterday.  I'm trying to spend more time out of the house, sitting around with my journal and reflecting on the thoughts in my head.

What is it I have done this time,
To deserve your lasting silence?
I'm trying to communicate with you,
But my attempts go unanswered.

Was I not quick enough to respond,
When you first sought my advice?
Or was it the advice I gave,
Which has now stifled your words?

Are you now consumed with guilt,
For letting your barriers fall?
And is the echo in your silence,
Your conscience calling out to you?

I know I must reap what I have sown,
And I wish to reconcile; but please tell me,
What is it I have done this time,
To deserve your lasting silence?

Poetic Writing...A learning process

I recently read the writings of a few poets and was impressed with their poetic abilities. I also took note of the various forms of poetry they created. Many of which I was unfamiliar with, which isn’t odd considering I have only worked in a couple of forms. So I am making an effort to expand into other forms of poetry.

Also in an effort to improve my creative writing I just purchased Three Great American Poets and plan to spend time reading and studying the writings of these poets.

Now for some of my writing:

Below is a Tanka, and the second one is another Haiku.

Lost deep in my thoughts,
In search of inspiration,
I pick up my pen,
And transfer the images,
To the paper before me.

Always she loved me.
I weep and place the flowers.
Rest in peace mother.
